ABOUT THE FORUM

Comprehensive discussion of the development of Buddhism
The objectives of the Forum are to draw an increasing attention to the understanding of Buddhist culture, philosophy, and practice in the conditions of modernity; to strengthen international ties of Buddhists; to give a new impetus to scholarly, academic, and cultural cooperation of Buddhist organizations from different countries.
A new platform for international dialogue
Buddhist religious and scholarly organizations and NGOs from Russia, China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and other countries where Buddhism is widely accepted are invited to participate in the Forum.
In the heart of Buddhism in Russia
The Forum is held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Buryatia as one of the world centers of Buddhist culture. The sacred places of Buryatia attract Buddhist researchers, pilgrims, and tourists from all parts of the world.

Current program
The discussion platforms of the Forum focus on the most relevant topics for Buddhism, such as its relations with the state, its place in the system of international relations, and the opportunities of Buddhist education. The Forum will include round table discussion such as "Russia-India: Buddhist Educational Cooperation". The traditional conference titled "The phenomenon of Pandito Hambo Lama Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov" will be held in Ivolginsky datsan "Khambyn Khure".

Unique exhibitions
The Forum will feature different exhibitions displaying rare manuscripts from the collection of ancient manuscripts of the Center for Oriental Manuscripts and Woodcuts of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which will include an interactive presentation of a unique illustrated edition of the Mongolian handwritten Kangyur. The Museum of the History of Buryatia will present the only complete copy of the Atlas of Tibetan Medicine in the world.
